DEADLINE:

· All entries must be submitted no later than midnight May 31, 2025.

 

ONLINE ENTRY:

RULES:

· The competition is open to ASID Student members who are full or part-time students in an interior design program in the State of Alabama. You MUST be an ASID member to enter.

· Students may enter 1 project per Design category, except for the Portfolio Category where a minimum of 3 projects must be included.  The Portfolio may include work submitted in the other categories. See Entry requirements for further details.

· Images from any project may be used in the two Rendering Categories, as long as they do not duplicate any image submitted in the Design Categories.

· AI technology may not be used in any way to write or create parts of your project. Exception: it is recognized that assigned exercises in its use for concept development may be a part of the process work.

· Winning Entries from previous years may not be used.

· Student’s name or school should not be used or appear on any entry material except the entry form. If anonymity is not preserved, the entry will be disqualified.

· ASID Alabama reserves the right to disqualify any entry.

 

PLACEMENT and AWARDS:

· Entrants who place within the top three spots of each category will be notified via email; please make sure to use an email address you’ll be checking over the summer when entering the competition.

· Final placement will be announced, and awards presented, at the annual IMPACT: ASID Alabama Interior Design Conference held in September (more information coming soon).

· An entry must have a minimum final average score of 13 out of 25 to place in the top three of that category.

 

EVALUATIONS:

· A jury of at least 5 practitioner interior designers and architects will evaluate each entry.

· Entries will be judged on:

à Design objectives: Addresses project specifications and requirements as indicated in the project guidelines, parameters, challenges and objectives.  (5 points)

à Functionality: Meets the project requirements and achieves functional objectives; special attention to universal design considerations and sustainability where applicable.  (5 points)

à Impact: Effectiveness of the design solution and positive impact on life and the human experience.  (5 points)

à Design Creativity: Originality. Creativity is used in problem-solving and design solutions. Creative use of materials, finishes, furnishings, and lighting.   (5 points)

à Graphics & Aesthetics: Overall visual results of the project including cohesion, graphic layout, and rendering qualities.   (5 points)

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Photos are preferred in PDF format.

2. Photos submitted in .jpg, .jpeg, or png, format be high resolution..

3. A completed “Authorization and Consent Form A”.

4. A completed “Project Information Form B”. Must be comprehensive in order to be judged adequately.

5. Design Concept Category: (both residential and commercial categories) MUST include:

· A floorplan

· Renderings of the completed project

· No less than 2 photos, and no more than 4.

· Any additional documentation needed to convey your design concept and solutions to the projects’ challenges; can include digital presentation boards.

· If your entry is a group project you MUST indicate which part you were responsible for on the Project Information Form B or it will be disqualified.

 6. Product Design Category:

· Include any documentation showing your creative process, such as inspirational photo or board.

· No less than 2 photos, and no more than 4.

· Initial sketches of your concept.

· Photos or renderings of the finished product.

7. Rendering Categories: (hand-drawn and computer-generated)

· Submit only 1 project per entry.

· Image should not have been included in Design Concept or Product categories.

· At least 1 photo is required but no more than 2 of the finished work.

· Include additional process or developmental phases of the work; ideation sketches.

8. Portfolio Category:

· Portfolio should include a mixture of work using a minimum of 3 different projects.

· Include 12 to 20 photos (images, boards, details, process, etc.)

· Besides the above evaluation factors, the overall project balance of the portfolio will be considered.
