Description

COURSE: "Total Design and ADA in Restrooms"
IDCEC & AIA Approved

Space is limited to 20 people.

DESCRIPTION: On average, people use the restroom six times per day. Restrooms in a building largely reflect the design decisions you make. The purpose of this course is to make the case that a comprehensive design approach that integrates ADA design requirements, Universal design strategies, and sustainable initiatives provides an inherently accessible and healthier restroom space for all users. “Total design” encompasses all design practices that include a wide spectrum of usage for all people. Isolating these design concepts into labels or “specialties”, prevent them from being incorporated into good design practices.

OBJECTIVES: By completing this course the design professional will be able to:

  • Identify how the restrooms in your buildings really impact occupants and your legacy as a designer.
  • Review 2010 ADA standards for Accessible Design for restrooms and their implementation.
  • Distinguish between minimal accessible design and universal design.
  • Define the characteristics of TOTAL design as they apply to the restroom setting.
