Daisy Bond Student Design Awards

AWARD CATEGORIES:
- DB01 - Commercial Design Concept
- DB02 - Residential Design Concept
- DB03 - Product Design
- DB04 - Computer Generated Rendering
- DB05 - Hand-Drawn Rendering
PRIZES:
- 1st Place - $1,000.00 + trophy
- 2nd Place - 500.00 + medallion
- 3rd Place - $250.00 + medallion
- The highest scoring project in the entire competition will be awarded the Best in Competition honor and will receive an additional $1,500.00 and trophy. In case of a tie, the ASID Alabama Board of Directors will choose the winning entry.
DEADLINE:
- All entries must be submitted no later than midnight May 31, 2023.
ONLINE ENTRY:
The online competition site has been enhanced and updated, providing a more user-friendly experience. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Bryant Williams at administrator@al.asid.org.
To enter, you will need to set up an “account”; follow these steps:
- Create a new account under "Sign In" at the top of the page.
- Once logged in, your action panel may already be open. If not, open it under "Me" in the upper right corner.
- From the action panel, edit your profile.
- Under "Memberships & Affiliations", add a new membership.
- Add yourself as a member of ASID Alabama and include your member type (Student) and your member ID. (This will add new useful links to your action panel.)

RULES:
- The competition is open to ASID Student members who are full or part-time students in an interior design program in the State of Alabama.
- Students may enter one project per category. Any single project can be entered in a maximum of two categories.
- Winning entries from previous years may not be entered again.
- Entry forms that are missing information may be disqualified.
- The student’s name is not to appear anywhere in the project submission. If anonymity is not preserved, the entry will be disqualified.
- ASID Alabama reserves the right to disqualify any entries that do not comply with the rules.
PLACEMENT and AWARDS:
- Entrants who place within the top three spots of each category will be notified via email; please make sure to use an email address you’ll be checking over the summer when entering the competition.
- Final placement will be announced, and awards presented, at the annual IMPACT: ASID Alabama Interior Design Conference held in September (more information coming soon).
- An entry must have a minimum final average score of 11.00 out of 20.00 to place in the top three of that category.
EVALUATIONS:
- A jury of 5 practitioner interior designers and architects will evaluate each entry.
- Entries will be judged on:
- Design objectives: Addresses project specifications and requirements as indicated in the project guidelines, parameters, challenges and objectives.
- Functionality: Meets the project requirements and achieves functional objectives; special attention to universal design considerations and sustainability where applicable.
- Impact: Effectiveness of the design solution and positive impact on life and the human experience.
- Design Creativity: Originality. Creativity used in problem solving and design solutions. Creative use of materials, finishes, furnishings, and lighting.
- Aesthetics: Overall visual results of the project. Design principles and elements.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- All photos should be in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format, and must be 300 dpi or higher.
- A completed “Authorization and Consent Form A”.
- A completed “Project Information Form B”
- Design Concept Category: (both residential and commercial categories) MUST include:
- A floorplan
- Renderings of the completed project
- No less than 2 photos, and no more than 4.
- Any additional documentation needed to convey your design concept and solutions to the projects’ challenges; can include digital presentation boards.
- Product Design Category:
- Any documentation showing your creative process, such as inspiration photo or board.
- No less than 2 photos, and no more than 4.
- Initial sketches of your concept.
- Photos or renderings of the finished product.
- Rendering Categories: (hand-drawn and computer generated)
- Submit only 1 project per entry.
- At least 1 photo is required, and no more than 2.
